Find

Evoke offers you a number of ways in which to find content you are interested in.

1. Browse the tree of concepts.
   This tree is hard to miss: it is one of the first things you will see when exploring a thesaurus. The tree allows you to move from meaning to words and phrases that express that meaning. Click on "open" to view more detailed information on the concept shown.
2. Use the search box.
   You can use the search box to look up items. These include concepts, but also words and phrases that express these concepts.

These are the two primary ways to start exploring. In addition, you can click on almost any bit of information to learn more about it. (Try clicking on pie charts and wordclouds, too!)

View

Once you have found and opened something you are interested in, you will see an information panel open up. This panel allows you to view your item from a number of viewpoints. Each has its own tab. Common ones are:

• Information.
  You'll find generic information about the item here: its name, position in the tree, identifiers, and so on. The IRI listed here (which is a web address used as identifier) is particularly useful. You can use it to combine information from the thesaurus and your own!
• List.
  You'll find relevant items listed here. When viewing a concept, those items shown are the words and phrases that express that concept. When viewing senses or entries, you will see the concepts that they express.
• Statistics.
  You'll find statistics here on the items listed for a concept. How many words and phrases express it? Is a certain part of speech dominant for this concept? How many words and phrases are found in the next branches?
• Wordcloud.
  You'll find the listed items here, too, but now presented as a cloud of words.

Filter

You may be interested in words with specific properties. Perhaps verbs, or those found in poetic works? You can make sure that only those of interest are shown. This system will be available in the near future and easy to use throughout Evoke.

At the moment, filtering is already possible in the statistics viewpoint. Simply hide irrelevant slices in a pie chart!

Combine

Combining information using Evoke is possible through its use of Linked Data. This means that each bit of information has its own identifier in the form of a web address (or IRI), allowing you to refer to it and to connect new information. Simply phrased, you can:

1. manage your own dataset,
2. link information, and
3. see its contents alongside the thesaurus!

Describe more words. Fashion more concepts. Create more labels. Link them to the thesaurus and explore (and share) these new connections!
