This website offers a new way to browse a thesaurus. A thesaurus is a special kind of dictionary, one that organizes words according to their meaning instead of alphabetically. This way of organising opens up numerous possibilities. One can infer how many words are available to express a certain concept, which these are, and what alternatives are available to speakers. One can also find out which concepts the various senses of a word bring to mind. In other words, one can tell what words evoke when they are used. Read on for exploring thesauri yourself!

Explore

The web-based platform Evoke is meant for exploring thesauri that are available on the Semantic Web. These thesauri are expressed in a digital form that facilitates the use, reuse and interoperability of knowledge. In fact, it allows referring to bits of information by means of web addresses. Linking up knowledge through such addresses is quite powerful, as the World Wide Web has already shown. Evoke allows you to browse, filter and visualize such linkable thesaurus content in an intuitive manner. Further functionality will be added after the initial stage of the website, allowing you also to expand on the available content, link it to other resources, and to formulate your own queries!
